These wonderful collectables are made to represent the Sicilian "Opera Dei Pupi", these typical characters of the popular form of theater are the French "Paladini" and their heroic enterprises and stories while driving non-Christian elements, especially the Sarasans from Sicily. Each piece is hand crafted, as illustrated by their differing facial expressions, and the composition of brass, copper, velvet and wood.
Puppets were important to Sicilians because the puppeteers could make political commentary without fear of persecution and also because they memorialize the struggles of Christianity driving out the Arab invaders in the 11th century.
These are not considered toys and are not suitable for children under the age of 12.!
